Matias Almeyda FC is one step closer to the UPSL Texas State Cup final

Another game played in the competition and another win for Matias Almeyda FC!
Their UPSL Texas State Cup run continues thanks to another great performance in the quarterfinals.

Last Saturday, the team played against Racing Houston City FC at Shadow Creek Sports Complex in South Houston. This opponent was a really competitive one. It is indeed the newest-born franchise of the Racing City Group, a holding company that owns among others Racing Murcia (Spain) and fellow UPSL member Racing Sacramento City. Despite the brief history, their performance in the Cup had been pretty impressive having knocked out Barcelona Soccer Excellence and Houston Regals in the previous rounds.

Given the quality of the teams, the game was intense and challenging. We had the chance to talk to Braian Baich, Almeyda FC's captain, who told us about the game from his point of view. "The game was played like a final, it took us a few minutes to adjust they got a penalty within the first 2 minutes of the game, luckily they missed and set the tempo for us again. We have faced adversity during the season and by now we know it can make us stronger, the team fought the whole game we got a red card early second half and we managed to keep our composure, we defended well and our opportunity came to score the second goal to give us the victory we wanted."

In the end, they got a well-deserved 2-0 win, and he was awarded Man of the Match for playing an excellent game while directing the team through a tough victory. These are Baich's thoughts on his performance: "I think individually I could always do more, my teammates created the chances and I was able to execute both times from the penalty spot and scored, this game is also about sensations and mental moments I try to be an example during those tough moments, we have a group with experienced players and also young hungry talented players, so we keep a good balance."

The stakes for this game were really high, and now Matias Almeyda FC has the chance to get to the final act of the competition. They will face Texas Spurs FC from Allen, TX (winners of the San Antonio/Austin bracket) in the semifinals. It's going to be another tough match against a strong opponent (check our article on them to know more) but at this stage of the competition, it is inevitable.

We, at, will continue to follow the competition in the semifinals and will bring you more match recaps and interviews next week. In the meantime, you can find all the results at this link.

We wish good luck to all the teams involved in the semifinals, and we hope to see some great soccer being played among some of the best teams in Texas!
