Important win for El Paso Surf to advance in the UPSL Texas State Cup

The new season has officially started for El Paso Surf! They were back on the field in 2023 with a home match against Sun City Astros FC. This El Paso Derby was a round-of-16 matchup for the brand-new UPSL Texas Open Cup, a competition for teams to get ready for the upcoming season by facing other local teams and possibly winning a $10,000 championship prize.
The two teams faced each other last Saturday at 3 pm in their first appearance in the competition since they both got a bye in the first round. The game wasn't an easy one and both teams fought hard to get the win. In the end, El Paso Surf was able to secure a good 4-1 win and a spot in the next round of the competition. They also extended their winning streak against the Astros after winning both matches in their West Texas-New Mexico division last season. NonProSoccer reached Coach Omar Mora for a post-game interview. "We had a tough game and our team gave all their efforts to come up with the win and keep on advancing to the next round", his comment on the game. "El Paso Surf is very excited to participate in this tournament and hopefully we could keep on advancing, we believe we have an incredible team", about the meaning of the Cup for his team and their ambitions.
Captain Iram Baylon made a huge difference in the game. The absolute top scorer managed to score all 4 goals to defeat a strong Sun City Astros side. His fantastic performance was crucial to granting El Paso Surf a spot in the quarterfinals.
Iram Baylon is not new to scoring loads of goals finishing last season with 14 goals scored. He is the top scorer for El Paso Surf and the future is looking very bright for him and his team. "Happy for the team and the way we managed to play the game with calm and intelligence, we can only get better from here on and hope to keep getting positive results", these were his words to NonProSoccer.
El Paso Surf is now set to face FPS FC (Farm of Professional Soccer FC) from Midland, TX in the quarterfinals of the UPSL Texas Open Cup. We, at nonprosoccer.com, will continue to follow the competition which you can find at this link and will post more news about it in the next few days.
Good luck to El Paso Surf SC and Sun City Astros FC for their upcoming season, and a huge thanks to Coach Omar Mora and captain Iram Baylon for taking some of their time to tell us their thoughts about the game!
