NOSL Weekend Recap - Matchweek 2

NOSL Weekend Recap – Matchweek 2
It may be listed as Matchweek 2, but the past weekend ended up being the first of the season for many of the NOSL clubs after a variety of issues postponed the week one matchups. For each of the clubs, players and fans were excited to kick off the 2021 season. By the end of the weekend, NOSL fans were treated to a flurry of goals, a come-from-behind win, and the excitement of new clubs taking to the field for the first time.

Amish Country United vs Forest City FC
This ended up being a bit of a surprise for all involved. The match was declared a forfeit and Amish Country was handed the 3-0 victory after Forest City wasn’t able to travel for the match. With an upcoming trip to Delaware Rising coming up, everyone is hoping that Forest City can make the trip and show the promise that was reflected in the league’s first set of power rankings.

The City of Ohio SC vs Ambassadors FC
The City of Ohio treated their fans to a thrilling home opener that will be remembered for years to come. Ambassadors FC came out swinging and netted an early goal from the PK spot in the 14th minute thanks to Braden Petno. While this looked to give the Ambassadors the early edge, this ended up being the only goal that they would score. The early goal seemed to wake the City of Ohio team up and they leveled up the match before halftime thanks to Bobby Barsic’s 37th-minute goal. Barsic continued his scoring ways in the second half by putting away another goal in the 70th minute. One final goal was all it took to seal the City of Ohio’s first win thanks to Adrian Miller’s quick thinking during a scramble in the 18-yard box.

Mansfield Liederkranz SC vs Team Vulpine
The NOSL Match-of-the-Week didn’t disappoint. The new members of the league started the season off in style with a 5-3 match. Mansfield started off the scoring early in the first half with goals from Luis Alverado and Wyatt Dille to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage. Just before halftime, Team Vulpine finally got back in the game with a goal from Wesley Burton. The second half of this game is where things really took off. Mansfield again started the scoring early as Chris Bigelow took advantage of a Team Vulpine mistake in their own half of the field. Three more goals in total were scored in the second half. When the dust settled, Mansfield came out of their first game with a 5-3 victory.

Ambassadors FC Ohio vs Stark County United
Matchweek 2 came to an end with a thrilling match in Cuyahoga Falls. In a move that would have surprised many, it was Stark County United that started the scoring off in this match. Stark County’s Nate McFeaters continued his scoring ways in the NOSL this season with an early second-half goal, against the run of play. Ambassadors FC Ohio wasn’t going to let this stand though. Ambassadors shifted their approach to the game and turned up the attack. The approach paid off as Ambassadors found the leveling goal late in the game thanks to Myles Schmidt’s 86th-minute strike. Ambassadors continued pushing for the winning goal through the remaining minutes of play but came up short.
